Operation Helping Hand

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2195 of Allen Texas is embarking upon a "grass roots" campaign we have dubbed "Operation Helping Hand" to gather support from local merchants for local dependents of military personnel deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is the first war in recent history where a very large portion of deployed units are composed of reserve and guard personnel ... our friends and neighbors. When these brave men and women return from their deployment they again will become our friends, neighbors. There is a saying associated with the military - We take care of our own. We would like to think that it also extends to the local community.

There are various programs that operate on a national level to aid these dependents but we feel that assistance is better managed at a local level. We are soliciting local merchants to provide goods and/or services for free or at a discounted rate for the duration of the sponsor's deployment or one year, which every comes first.

VFW Post 2195 members will canvas local merchants to provide goods/service in specific areas to include:
  • grooming (hair care)
  • air conditioning/heating repair
  • lawn care (tree and scrub trimming)
  • carpet cleaning
  • dry cleaning
  • plumbing
  • electrical repair
  • automotive maintenance (oil changes, tune ups, etc)
  • recreation (bowling, karate)
  • discounted meals at local restaurants
  • computer repair
If you are a merchant and can support this program place contact the project officer.

If you are a dependent or know a dependent of a deployed military member that resides within Allen (zip codes 75002 or 75013) please contact the project officer.
